American Legion Post 83
3650 River Rd., Eugene Oregon 97404
American Legion Post 83 was founded on March 27, 1975 on the Jamieson House property in North Eugene/ Santa Clara. The property is 2.75 acres of land on the west side of River Road. Most of the land is covered in grass with some trees along the east border.
The Jamieson House is in the Historical Register; it was built in 1918 as a Sears and Roebuck mail order home. Sears and Roebuck homes, or Sears Modern Homes, were pre-cut house kits sold through Sears’ mail-order catalogs between 1908 and 1940. Customers received all the necessary building materials—like lumber, nails, and even varnish—along with detailed instructions to build their own home. These customizable “kit homes” were shipped by rail to various locations across the country, with around 70,000 to 75,000 homes sold during the program’s run.
Today Post 83 is home to a membership of approximately 500 members across its entities supporting veterans and the local community with many charitable events held each year.
